Where there's snow, gap-filled (NOAA-20, daily, 375 m)

VIIRS/JPSS1 CGF Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 375m SIN Grid V002
cryosphere NASA NSIDC_CPRD Level 3 active HDF-EOS5
In plain English

What it measures. A daily, cloud-free map of where snow covers the land. Where clouds blocked the view, the dataset fills in a best estimate of the snow likely underneath.

How it's made. Built from the VIIRS instrument on the NOAA-20 satellite, then run through a gap-filling step that replaces cloud-blocked pixels and maps everything to a roughly 375-meter grid.

How & where you'd use it. Helps with tracking snow seasons, water supply forecasting, and flood and climate studies, since a cloud-free daily snow map is more usable than one full of gaps.

Official description

This data set contains daily 'cloud-free' snow cover produced from the VIIRS/JPSS-1 Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 375m SIN Grid, Version 2 snow cover product. A cloud-gap-filled algorithm is utilized to replace ‘cloud-covered’ pixels with ‘cloud-free pixels’ for the purpose of estimating the snow cover that may exist under current cloud cover. The data are provided daily and mapped to a 375 m sinusoidal grid.
