Processed radar altimeter signal, near-real-time (Copernicus)

Sentinel-3 SRAL Radar Altimetry L-1B (NRT)
ocean ESA ESA Copernicus active
In plain English

What it measures. Geo-located, fully calibrated, high-resolution radar power echoes that have been combined ("multi-looked") to reduce noise, but not yet turned into surface heights.

How it's made. Produced from the SRAL radar altimeter on ESA Copernicus' Sentinel-3 satellites as a Level-1B product, one processing step beyond the rawest data, delivered in near-real time.

How & where you'd use it. An intermediate input for altimetry experts rather than a finished product; it leads to measurements of ocean, lake, river, and ice-surface heights.

Coverage & cadence

  • Time span2019-06-12 → ongoing
  • Spatial extent-180, -90, 180, 90

What you can do with it

  • Watch sea-surface temperature and marine heatwaves
  • Spot algal blooms and ocean-colour shifts
  • Support fisheries and coastal monitoring
