Air pollutant profiles over Los Angeles (Aura)

TROPESS CrIS-SNPP L2 for Los Angeles Megacity, Standard Product V1 (TRPSDL2ALLCRSMGLOS) at GES DISC
atmosphere NASA GES_DISC Level 2
In plain English

What it measures. The vertical layering of seven air gases (including methane, carbon monoxide, ozone, and ammonia) plus temperature, focused specifically on the Los Angeles region from 2016 to 2021.

How it's made. Retrieved from the CrIS instrument on the Suomi-NPP satellite using an estimation algorithm, giving daily profiles at 14 km detail stacked across 17 vertical levels.

How & where you'd use it. Helps researchers study air quality and pollutant chemistry above a major city, including how gases vary with altitude over time.

Official description

The TROPESS CrIS-SNPP L2 for Los Angeles Megacity, Standard Product contains the vertical distribution of seven retrieved atmospheric gases (CH4, CO, H2O, HDO, NH3, O3 and PAN) and temperature, along with formal uncertainties measured by the CrIS instrument on the Suomi-NPP satellite. This standard product is one of the TROPESS Special Collections, centered on a 3x3 degree region over Los Angeles for the time period from 2016-01-02 to 2021-05-21. The NASA TRopospheric Ozone and Precursors from Earth System Sounding (TROPESS) project, uses an optimal estimation algorithm, known as the MUlti-SpEctra, MUlti-SpEcies, Multi-SEnsors (MUSES). The data files are written in the netCDF version 4 file format, and each file contains one day of data. The data have a spatial resolution of 14 km (CrIS nadir FOV), and are reported at 17 vertical levels from the surface to 0.1 hPa. The principal investigator for the TROPESS project is Kevin W. Bowman.
