Monthly NOx pollution from biomass burning (reanalysis)

TROPESS Chemical Reanalysis Surface Biomass Burning NOx emissions Monthly 2-dimensional Product V1 (TRPSCRENOXBM2D) at GES DISC
atmosphere NASA GES_DISC Level 4 active
In plain English

What it measures. Monthly maps of nitrogen oxide pollution (NO and NO2) coming specifically from biomass burning, such as wildfires and other fires, at the surface.

How it's made. Part of a chemical reanalysis covering 2005 to 2021, produced by a model framework that combines multiple satellite sensors to estimate emissions, rather than by a single instrument.

How & where you'd use it. Helps researchers track how much nitrogen oxide pollution fires release over time and where, supporting studies of air quality and the atmospheric effects of biomass burning.

What's measured

ATMOSPHERE › ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY › NITROGEN COMPOUNDS › NITROGEN OXIDES

Coverage & cadence

  • Time span2005-01-01 → ongoing
  • Measured byREANALYSIS MODELS (NOT APPLICABLE)
  • Processing levelLevel 4
  • Spatial extent-180, -90, 180, 90

What you can do with it

  • Map air pollutants — NO₂, aerosols, ozone
  • Track greenhouse gases and Earth's energy budget
  • Feed weather and air-quality analysis
Official description

The TROPESS Chemical Reanalysis Surface Biomass Burning NOx emissions Monthly 2-dimensional Product contains nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) emissions from biomass burning sources. The data are part of the Tropospheric Chemical Reanalysis v2 (TCR-2) for the period 2005-2021. TCR-2 uses JPL's Multi-mOdel Multi-cOnstituent Chemical (MOMO-Chem) data assimilation framework that simultaneously optimizes both concentrations and emissions of multiple species from multiple satellite sensors. The data files are written in the netCDF version 4 file format, and each file contains a year of data at monthly resolution, and a spatial resolution of 1.125 x 1.125 degrees. The principal investigator for the TCR-2 data is Miyazaki, Kazuyuki.
