Carbon dioxide released by human activity (2012-2017)
What it measures. Hourly estimates of carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuels across the continental United States, broken down by source such as power plants, factories, cars, ships, aircraft, and homes. It maps where and when human CO2 emissions happen, down to 1-kilometer squares.
How it's made. Produced by the ACES computer model rather than a satellite, combining emissions information for ten sectors into a fine-scale gridded inventory for 2012 to 2017.
How & where you'd use it. Helps researchers and policymakers see the geography and timing of carbon emissions, supporting carbon-tracking, air-quality, and climate studies.

Official description
This dataset provides estimates of hourly carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels at 1-km resolution for the coterminous United States (CONUS) covering the years 2012 through 2017. Emissions from the ACES model are reported for ten distinct emissions source sectors: Airports and Aircraft, Commercial Buildings, Electric Power Generation facilities, Industrial point and non-point sources, Commercial Marine Vessels, Nonroad vehicles and equipment, Oil and Gas wells and facilities, Onroad vehicles, Railway engines and yards, and Residential buildings. All emissions are reported hourly on a 1-km x 1-km spatial grid. The data are provided in NetCDF version 4 format.
