3D elevation maps of ice from aerial photos (IceBridge)

IceBridge DMS L3 Photogrammetric DEM V001
land NASA NSIDC_CPRD Level 3 XMLGeoTIFFJPEG
In plain English

What it measures. 3D elevation maps of the ice surface in Greenland and Antarctica, plus matching corrected aerial photos showing the terrain in its true geographic position.

How it's made. Derived from photos taken by the Digital Mapping System camera flown on aircraft during NASA's Operation IceBridge campaigns, turned into gridded elevation models using photogrammetry.

How & where you'd use it. Supports studies of how polar ice sheets are changing shape and height over time.

What's measured

SPECTRAL/ENGINEERING › VISIBLE WAVELENGTHS › VISIBLE IMAGERY

Coverage & cadence

  • Time span2011-03-18 → 2013-11-26

What you can do with it

  • Track deforestation, fire scars and land-cover change
  • Monitor crop and vegetation health (NDVI/EVI)
  • Map how built-up vs. green an area is over time
Official description

The IceBridge DMS L3 Photogrammetric DEM (IODMS3) data set contains gridded digital elevation models and orthorectified images of Greenland and Antarctica derived from the Digital Mapping System (DMS). The data were collected as part of Operation IceBridge funded campaigns.
